Using our calculator above, I found that a 170 lbs person would burn 1200-1300 calories if he actively stands for 8 hours making random movements such as walking to fill his bottle of water, doing standing meetings, etc. While this sounds tempting, please remember that standing for 8 hours continuously may not be a good idea. It could cause knee and lower back pain. You may also get varicose veins.
Is standing on a desk good for weight loss?
Standing burns two times more calories than sitting. If you are trying to lose weight, standing may not be enough. It can’t compensate for a proper workout. You need to cut down your calories and do cardio and strength training for at least 6 days a week to effectively lose weight. But, yes standing can help you burn a few extra calories than sitting.
