Anyone who has tried the cold plunge for more than a few days knows the remarkable mental and physical benefits they provide. But when looking into get a cold plunge for your house, you quickly realize these things are surprisingly expensive.
However, you can save a considerable amount by buying all the components you need individually and assembling your cold plunge yourself. Of course, it's not as straightforward as simply ordering everything from a single cold plunge provider. But putting together a fully functioning cold plunge for $600-$700 is certainly appealing.
DIY Cold-plunge Build Overview
- Ice Pod Pro Cold Plunge – you can really buy any plunge but I like this one because it has the two valves built in and it supposedly has extra insulation
- 1/3 HP Water Chiller – really you can find any 1/3 horsepower water chiller on Amazon and use that but this one was actually the cheapest price at the time that I purchased it and so far it seems to be working well.
- Hydrofarm AAPW400 24-Watt 400 GPH Indoor/Outdoor Hydroponic Aquarium Water Pump – More powerful then the one that comes with the chiller
- Water Pump Strainer Filter – filters incoming cold plunge water into the chiller
- 3/4″ ID x 1″ OD – 10 Ft High Pressure Braided Clear PVC Vinyl Tubing – used for connecting all the components together
- 3% Hydrogen Peroxide Solution – you can probably get a bottle from your local grocery store cheaper
- Spears 1407 Series PVC Tube Fitting, 90 Degree Elbow, Schedule 40, Gray, 3/4″ Barbed x NPT Female – For connecting the chiller to the tubing.
- 20 pcs 3/4″ Barb x 1/2″ NPT Male Connector, Plastic Hose Barb Fitting, Adapter, Industrial Hose Barb to Pipe Fittings Connect – For connecting everything else to the tubing.
- Garden Hose Connector Adapter,3/4″ GHT male and 1/2″ NPT male Connectors, Brass Repair Fittings, for female Hose to female Hose (3 Pack) – This was something I needed in order to connect my pull-down sink faucet to a garden hose I purchased .
- Pocket Hose Silver Bullet 2.0 Expandable Garden Hose 50-FT with Turbo Shot Nozzle – I needed this because I didn't have a garden hose at the time. You may not need it.
