Quick Review Summary

Made of 14 gauge steel, Sunny Health & Fitness SF-XF9925 power cage/strength rack/squat rack is a good option for home gym owners who need something basic for their weight training needs. As obvious from its price, it isn’t one of the finest pieces of equipment that you will be proud of owning. But, as always, Sunny Health & Fitness has once again come up with a basic, no-frills product that works as expected.

The only major issue you might not like about this power cage is that the holes are of non-standard size. So, it may not be compatible with the accessories from other brands. You will have to buy them from the same manufacturer.

  • One of the most affordable power cages for home gyms
  • Comes with a multigrip, reversible pull-up bar
  • Comes with a pair of spotter arms
  • Has resistance band pegs on the frame
  • Can be bolted to the floor

  • The hole size is slightly less than 1”, so you cannot buy accessories from other manufacturers
  • Poor customer services
  • The pull-up bar has an almost non-existent grip

We are giving this a rating of 4.0 out of 5.0.

Provides the best value for your money

Sunny Health & Fitness SF-XF9925 power rack has a standard 2”X2” frame made of 14 gauge steel. Honestly, the steel quality isn’t that great but, unless you are an athlete or a bodybuilder, this shouldn’t be an issue because you anyway won’t be training with more than 350-400 lbs of weight.

Some buyers have reported that its width is lesser than they would have liked but that's not a dealbreaker because most home gym equipment are expected to be compact.

We highly admire the manufacturer for including a pair of safety spotters. Not many low-cost squat racks come with these additional accessories. They and the j-hooks are lined with UHMW plastic that helps protect your barbell against damage.

Just like all other Sunny Health & Fitness power cages and half racks, this one too comes with bare minimum assembly instructions but whatever you get is enough to help you put it together. Just don’t forget to ask a friend to help you.

As we said above, you can easily trust it with 350-400lbs of weight, which is more than what an intermediate-level trainer would lift.

Sunny Health and Fitness SF-XF9925 Power zone strength rack can be bolted to the floor

And, we highly recommend this.

Many buyers have reported that this is not a super-stable power cage. It wobbles and the shakiness increases when you use the pullup bars or when you load it with heavy weights.

This is a standard issue with all budget products, so we shouldn’t be complaining about the wobbling issue nor should we be considering this as a dealbreaker. Rather, Sunny Health and Fitness has done a good job by providing the floor anchoring option.

Many low-cost power racks or half racks do not come with pre-drilled holes and screws that you can use to anchor them to the floor. You can, however, make your own holes and buy screws from a hardware store. But, Sunny Health and Fitness saves you from this headache by providing all necessary hardware and holes for bolting it down to the floor or to your weightlifting platform if needed.

Here is how you can make your own weightlifting platform, in case you don’t already have one.

You will probably have to buy accessories from the same manufacturer

Sunny Health and Fitness SF-XF9925 power cage has a standard 2”X2” frame, so you may assume that it should be compatible with almost all accessories created for the said frame size. But, that’s not true.

All squat racks and half racks from Sunny Health & Fitness including the SF-XF9931 Sunny Health & Fitness half rack have non-standard hole sizing i.e. they are a bit smaller than the 1” standard holes found in all other squat cages and half racks. So, you have no option other than buying the accessories from the same brand.

Thankfully, the company manufactures almost all types of accessories that you might need. And, they are well-designed, good quality products. However, it should seriously think of using standard 1” hole sizing, so buyers get the flexibility of buying any product from any brand they like. They shouldn’t feel trapped.

The pullup bar doesn’t have enough grip

Sunny Health and Fitness claims that its SF-XF9925 power zone strength rack has a textured, angled, reversible, height-adjustable, multi-grip pullup bar.

All these claims are true except that the texture is not deep enough to give you a decent grip. This is because it is coated with cheap quality paint, which reduces the depth of the textured marks. Plus, as we said, it is painted, not powder coated. And, the paint itself is slippery.

If you are into basic pullups, this might not be an issue but if you do a lot of calisthenic exercises, you might want to add a pair of gymnastic rings to your home gym. They are really inexpensive, lightweight, and portable, so you won’t mind buying them additionally.

Here are some of the best gymnastic rings that we have selected for you. You might also want to go through our list of Best Cable Pulley Systems that you can add to your Sunny Health and Fitness power cage/squat rack. Since these pulley systems need to be looped around the pull-up bar, you won’t experience any compatibility issues.

Issues of missing parts are frequently reported by buyers

Sunny Health & Fitness should seriously address these concerns by hiring a more competent quality control team. It should also work on improving its customer services team because it is really difficult to get in touch with them when needed.

These issues can severely impact the reputation of a company, so they should be addressed on a priority basis but that's not the case with this company.

We are giving this a rating of 4.0 out of 5.0.

Wrap Up

Despite its flaws, the Sunny Health and Fitness SF-XF9925 power zone strength rack is one of the best options you have got under $350. The price on the manufacturer’s website could be a bit lower but we highly recommend that you buy it through Amazon, so in case something goes wrong, you can return or exchange it.

If you are looking for even cheaper options, we suggest you should buy a half rack instead such as the Sunny Health & Fitness SF-XF9931 half rack, the Fitness Reality Multi-Function Half Rack, or the HulkFit Half Rack. Here is our detailed article on the Best Half Racks for Your Home Gym
