Quick Review Summary

Not recommended for people taller than 5.5’ because the backrest is small and you won’t be able to support your head and neck. Being a low-cost product, Flybird adjustable bench 02 model is suitable only for casual and light training sessions. It wobbles when used for rigorous training sessions. Otherwise, it is a good piece of home gym equipment for most of us.

Comparision of various adjustable benches by Flybird

Comes almost assembled

All you need to do is to take it out of its box, unfold it, and screw in the leg piece, which shouldn’t take more than 5 minutes. Other adjustable benches require a decent amount of assembly. If you don’t have time or if you don’t want to deal with nuts, bolts, and screws, you will love this adjustable bench.

Folds flat for compact storage

That's the USP of this product. With a 4.5-star rating and more than 10,000 amazing reviews from satisfied buyers, the Flybird adjustable dumbbell is one of the top-rated products of its kind. Despite many noticeable flaws, it is still in demand because it can be folded and stowed away when not in use.

The bench is lightweight and has just one locking/unlocking pin. Folding and unfolding takes seconds, so you won’t mind doing it every day. Plus, it has a compact footprint(read below), so you can even keep it inside a cabinet or in any corner of your room.

If you have a bare minimum space to set up your home gym, the Flybird adjustable bench is a good option for you (provided you are fine with its flaws mentioned below). You can buy a pair of Flybird adjustable dumbbells to further minimize your floor space.

The build and quality meets expectations

At about $130-$140, we weren’t expecting much from this FlyBird adjustable bench. But, we soon realized why it is a much-loved product among small home gym owners.

It offers 6 different incline positions and a decline position. The seat can be adjusted to 4 different positions so you don’t slip off during training. Changing the inclination is very easy. All you need to do is to pull out the support bar and place it at the spot that suits you best. It takes seconds.

Other affordable adjustable benches use a peg and ladder system for changing the inclination. After some time, the peg starts wearing out and may even slip out of its teeth. Flybird’s system is better and more durable.

The frame is made of rectangular tubing but the legs are made of round tubings and have cheap rubber end caps, which is a typical thing in almost all low-cost benches. The seat too is made of low-quality plywood, which could creak sometimes.

What we like the most about the Flybird adjustable bench is its soft foam padding. It might not be 2” thick, as claimed by the manufacturer but it is still enough to keep you comfortable. We doubt if the cover of the seat is actually leather but we are happy with whatever it is.

The height of the backrest is too short to accommodate your head

dimensions of Flybird adjustable bench

As you can see in the image above, the backrest is just 29” high. If you are a really small person, you may be able to rest your head on it. But, if you are taller than 5.5’, your head and possibly your neck won't get any support.

The manufacturer states that it is intentionally designed that way to make it compact enough for small spaces. Well, that’s admirable but if you are training with heavy weights, you could possibly strain or injure your neck, especially when you are working in an incline or decline position. The backrest should have been a couple of inches longer.

Not suitable for training with heavy weights

Weighing just 22lbs, the Flybird adjustable bench is extremely lightweight (because it is made of a thin tubular steel frame). This makes it wobbly. It doesn’t wobble enough to throw you off balance but the wobble can make you anxious. Plus, the wobble gets harder when you train with a heavy load. Some buyers have suggested that you can weigh it down by putting weight plates on the foot and that should help with the wobble.

This is an inexpensive adjustable bench, so this issue was quite expected. If you are quite regular with your workouts and train with a decent amount of weight, you should look for better options such as the BowFlex weight benches

That’s all we have to say about the Flybird adjustable bench.
