The first thing that comes to my mind when I hear the name Eleiko is exceptional quality and unbelievable endurance.
Just in case you don’t know, it is a Sweden-based company. Founded in 1928, it used to manufacture electrical appliances until 1957, when it built its first barbell. In 1963, its barbells were used for the World Weightlifting Championship in Stockholm. Since then, the company has set more than 1000 world records and came up with severe patents and groundbreaking innovations.
If you are looking for competition-grade bumper plates that can bear years of rough use and abuse, Eleiko is one name that you can trust for your money. In this article, I will be reviewing them.
Its Performance weightlifting bar is another such meticulously crafted, high-performance strength training equipment for people who are not going to stop or slow down anytime soon. And, that’s why it has made it to our list of best high-end barbells.
It also manufactures rigs that are no less than a beast but I am yet to review them. My list of Best Squat Racks for Your Home Gym, however, has some of the good options suitable for you. Rogue RM Series Monster Racks and Rep Fitness SR 4000 Rack are my favorites among them.
Let’s get to my review now.
Quick Review Summary
Eleiko competition bumper plates are approved by IWF for competitions. This itself states their build quality and durability. They are made of impact-resistant SBR rubber with a patented steel hub that the manufacturer claims to absorb the shock and enhance the durability of the plates. These competition weight plates are highly calibrated and have a weight tolerance of +/- 0.05% of their stated weight. Eleiko has tested them for their durability by dropping them over 1,00,000 times.

These are IWF approved bumper plates
The other competition bumper plates that I have reviewed recently are designed as per IWF standards but their manufacturers haven’t yet got them approved by IWF. That’s because it’s not easy to get IWF approval. Adhering to the dimensions and choice of material is one thing but passing the rigorous test conducted by IWF is another. It takes a lot of effort and money. And, at the end, the manufacturers will have to pass on the extra cost onto the buyers by making their products beyond the reach of many trainers.
Eleiko, however, wants to cater to only those trainers who do not mind spending extra money on plates that are designed to be used for competitions. If you are a fitness freak you may not want to spend a whopping amount of money on IWF approved products but if you are training for competitions, this extra cost is worth it.
I don’t have to describe the quality of raw material used or how well-built these competition plates are. The IWF approval explains it all.
Eleiko IWF weightlifting competition bumper plates have been tested with 1,00,000 drops
REP Fitness Competition Bumper Plates are tested for 30,000 drops and most buyers have confirmed that they last well beyond this.
Eleiko has gone much farther and tested their plates by dropping them 1,00,000 times from a height of 2 meters. This drop test explains their high durability, especially when used by people who are not quite gentle with their weights. No wonder why Eleiko is confidently offering a 10-years warranty on them.
These competition bumper plates have a thinner profile so you can add more of them on the barbell
The steel hub at the center of the Eleiko competition bumper plates is made of two-piece thick steel discs connected together with 5 bolts. Look at the image below.
Since the steel core is thicker and heavier than many other competition plates, Eleiko has managed to make its plates thinner than what I had expected and that’s why you can load more of them on each side of the barbell. Even one extra plate on each side can take your training to another level, so yes, the thinner profile of the Eleiko competition bumper plates definitely makes them worth their high price tag.
Eleiko IWF weightlifting competition bumper plates come with 10-year warranty
Competition bumper plates are required to be durable enough to bear thousands of drops. They are meant to be used by people who train really hard and, when they do so, they often have to throw their weights after their reps to protect themselves from injuries due to imbalance. Plus, they have to recover quickly and save their energy for the next rep, so they have no option other than throwing the weights.
Now, the more you throw your plates, the sooner they will degrade. Decent quality products such as the Fringe Sport competition plates come with 1 year warranty. Some high-quality ones such as the REP Fitness competition bumper plates and Rogue competition bumper plates are covered for 5-years but Eleiko competition bumper plates are warranted for 10 years, even when they are used for hardcore training.
They are very expensive
Eleiko competition bumper plates are sold individually, so the price you see on the website is for a single plate; not a pair. And the price is much higher than what I had expected. But, you get what you pay for.
If you are strictly into competition training or have a surplus budget, Eleiko IWF competition bumper plates should be one of the most worthy investments for your home gym. But, if you are looking for equally good for slightly affordable options, check out our list of best competition bumper plates.
We are giving this a rating of 5 out of 5.0.
Eleiko doesn’t support customer reviews on its website, so I have no clue about the issues the buyers may have faced. But, since these plates are IWF approved, we can safely assume that they are built to be your most reliable partner in your strength training journey.
