So one of the slight annoyances of having a squat rack/power cage is dealing with remembering where to place your J-hooks and Safety Pins for the big exercises like the Squat, Bench, OH Press and Deadlift.
Recently I decided to solve this problem once and for all on my current Squat Rack housed in what I call the “Temple of Steel”.
I started doing research online and came across 3 ways to mark the holes on your Squat Rack/Power Cage:
1. Use a Silver Sharpie
So, this is what I have done with my prior squat racks and it works very well!
Here is an example of what I mean:
Now, keep in mind you don't have to just number them. You could mark specific placements for your Squat, Press, etc.
I couldn't find these sharpies anywhere but Amazon and here is the type I got when I did this last a few years ago:
2. Use Stickers
I also found that to mark their rack holes some people get numbered stickers from Amazon. The downside with this is that you can't customize what you put on the stickers. Still, you could combine the numbered stickers with Silver sharpie if you want and get the best of both worlds!
3. Use colored printable labels
So, this is the method I settled on and what I like the most. Below are pics from my actual squat rack.
I printed the labels out on my printer and I create labels not for the numbers but for the specific place to put my J-Hooks or Safety Pins. Safety Pin Labels go on the inside and J-Hook Labels go on the outside.
Below are the labels I purchased on Amazon. They work quite well!
