This is the second adjustable dumbbell that we are reviewing. The first one was the Bowflex SelectTech 1090 Adjustable Dumbbell

Bowflex dumbbells can be adjusted between 10 and 90 lbs, making them suitable for intermediate to advanced trainers. Plus, they cost around $450 for one piece, which most of us won’t be able to afford.

FLYBIRD Adjustable Dumbbell is an affordable alternative but its max weight is either 25lbs or 55lbs, depending on the model you choose. It costs about 1/4th of the price of Bowflex adjustable dumbbells but it is in no way a cheap, unreliable product.

Rather, if you are just getting started with weight training or if you are an average person who has no intentions of training with more than 25lbs anytime soon, FLYBIRD Adjustable Dumbbells can help you save a lot of money and floor space.

Here is what you need to know before you order a pair of it for your home gym.

Noteworthy features of FLYBIRD Adjustable Dumbbell

  • Dimensions: 25lbs model measures 14.60 inches x 7.90 inches x 6.70 inches
  • Weight: comes in two models; one has max weight of 25lbs and the other one can be adjusted for 55lbs
  • The plates are made of aluminum and the tray is made of hard plastic.
  • To adjust the weight, you need to turn the handle. Unlike Bowflex adjustable dumbbells, it doesn’t have a dial. The handle holds the plates and has an indicator that lets you select the amount of weight that you want to use.
  • Weight increment is of 5lbs
  • Warranty- 1 year

Please note: Just like Bowflex dumbbells and other adjustable dumbbells, this one too is sold as a single unit. You need to buy two pieces.

What we like about FLYBIRD Adjustable Dumbbell

Provides Bowflex quality features in 1/4th of its price

Most adjustable dumbbells below $100 use a manual mechanism for weight adjustment i.e. you will have to manually remove or add the plates as and when needed. If you are going to use the same amount of weight throughout your workout this shouldn't be a problem but if you would rather prefer to change the weight frequently during your reps, you wouldn’t like to spend two minutes adjusting the weight and letting your heart rate drop.

For example; this Ativafit Adjustable Dumbbell uses a dial mechanism and costs $200 for just 55lbs weight. Flybird’s closest competitor Hhusali 25lbs adjustable dumbbell costs $140. At $85, Flybird adjustable dumbbells are a great deal.

Prompt and helpful customer support

Customer review of Flybird adjustable dumbbell praising its customer service team

Numerous buyers have appreciated the customer support team of Flybird. They have mentioned that the company reached out to them upon seeing their negative feedback and offered replacements for free even though the buyers never formally approached them!

Now, that's something we love. Adjustable dumbbells have a short life. Unlike conventional dumbbells that could even be passed from generation to generation, these ones would not last beyond a few years, provided you use them carefully. If your Flybird adjustable dumbbell is already in the warranty period, you can easily get it replaced. You don’t have to literally chase them, which is pretty common with Chinese manufacturers.

What we don’t like about it

The weight plates stick a bit

When you lift them from the tray, the unwanted plates get stuck between the remaining plates. You will have to literally apply some force to take them off. If you don’t do that, the plates could rise well above the tray and fall on your foot or maybe on the tray.

If you are doing circuit training or some online course, you might miss some reps, while changing the weights. Not a dealbreaker but you should know what to expect from it.

We are giving this a rating of 4.5 out of 5.0.
