Adjustable dumbbells and kettlebells are great options for people who have limited space in their home gym. Most of these equipment can be adjusted between a very light weight to medium-heavy weight, making them suitable for most people. You don’t need to have too many of them lying around in your home gym. Just a set of each one will help you gradually take your strength training to the next level.

A few months ago, we had come up with a list of the 6 Best adjustable dumbbells and, clearly, Bowflex was the winner. It uses its own ‘SelectTech technology’ that helps produce multifunctional equipment such as kettlebells, benches, barbells, etc. in extremely compact designs. The weights can be adjusted by turning a dial, which makes it easy and almost instant.

Bowflex SelectTech 840 adjustable Kettlebell is one such product that lets you adjust the weight of your kettlebell from 8 to 40 pounds within seconds. The extra plates remain on the floor in a tray and you can add them back when needed, which is also an almost instant process. No wonder why we have included it in our list of Best Adjustable Kettlebells for Your Home Gym

In this article, we will provide you with an in-depth review of Bowflex adjustable kettlebell, so you can decide if it is worth its price because cheaper options are available too!

What we like about Bowflex adjustable kettlebell

Instant and hassle-free weight change

As we have mentioned above, to add or remove the weight plates, all you need to do is to turn the dial located at the top. This takes only a few seconds.

Other cheaper alternatives such as the Titan Fitness adjustable Kettlebell and Stamina X Adjustable Kettle Versa-Bell require you to manually remove or add the weight plates and lock them in position before use. This could take about 1 minute or two. Now, when you are short of time, you wouldn’t want to waste that one minute. You would prefer something that makes it easier to change your weights instantly between the reps and get maximum benefits from your workouts.

What we don’t like about it

The handle is not wide and thick enough

Buyer's review of the Bowflex adjustable kettlebell
Buyer's review of the Bowflex adjustable kettlebell

The handles of Bowflex SelectTech 840 adjustable Kettlebell are thinner and shorter than normal kettlebell handles. They are not as ergonomic as the standard kettlebells. Numerous buyers have stated that you cannot hold them with both hands, especially if you have large hands. Further, the handles are square, not rounded like the conventional kettlebells so you would need some time to get used to it.

Since a lot of buyers have found it to be a problem, maybe BowFlex should think about upgrading it.

It has a larger dimension than conventional kettlebells

If you look at the picture, you can figure out that it is a bit chunky. That's how it is designed. It has a hard outer shell that encloses the plates.

Now, if you are a short person, even an average person, you have to be very careful not to bang your head with it. Plus, you also have to be careful while doing the swings as there are chances that you could smash it against the floor.

Well, Bowflex adjustable kettlebell has received 4-star ratings from 97% of the buyers. Thousands of them have stated that it takes a few weeks to get used to the design but once you are done with it, you are all set for a good number of years.

Please note: the weight plates could rattle inside the shell

This is a common issue with all adjustable kettlebells and dumbbells too. Since the weight plates are attached to a rod, when you remove one of them, they will start rattling randomly. Do not worry, the weights won’t fly off.

Our rating: 4.5/5

Wrap up:

Bowflex adjustable kettlebells can replace 6 standard kettlebells. They are a great option for most of us. But, the poor handle built and extra-large size could restrict you from performing a few exercises or maybe you will have to be extra careful while doing them. Otherwise, it is one of the best adjustable kettlebells that we recommend for small homes.

And that's all we have to say in our Bowflex adjustable kettlebell review.

Before you go, we would like to brief you about kettlebell handles. Yes, these are just handles that you can use to hold your dumbbells or weight plates and use them as kettlebells. For example; you can use the NewMe Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell Handle to convert your barbell plates to kettlebells. The handle can hold upto 900lbs of weight! Bowflex adjustable kettlebells have a max weight of 40lbs only. Kettle gryp is another such product but it is meant to hold dumbbells.
