Rogue Monster Lite Series Foldable Wall-Mount Squat Rack Review

Monster Lite series squat racks are made of 3” X 3” 11 gauge steel. They are meant for intermediate to advanced trainers, athletes, bodybuilders, and fitness enthusiasts. We have already reviewed the Rogue RML Series (Monster Lite) Rack and the Rogue Fitness SML (Monster Light) Series Half Racks. In this article, we will be reviewing the Rogue Monster Lite series foldable wall-mount squat racks.

As obvious from their names, they are mounted on the walls and the uprights can be folded and flushed against the wall to save space when the rack is not in use.

Rogue Monster lite series has four different foldable racks; Rogue RML-3W Fold Back Wall Mount Rack, Rogue RML-3WC Fold Back Wall Mount Rack, Rogue RML-90 slim Rack, and Rogue RML-90 slim Door Mount Fold Back Rack. Out of these, the RML-3W one is its best-selling product with thousands of 5-star reviews from extremely satisfied buyers. The RML-3WC is almost the same as that of RML-3W, except that you get multiple color options to choose from. The RML-90 slim rack is highly compact and is recommended only if you have serious space issues. The RML-90 slim door mount rack is meant to be installed around the doors.

We will be talking about the Rogue RML-3W Fold Back Wall Mount Rack but the other three are almost the same in terms of build quality.

Rogue Monster Lite series foldable wall-mount racks are built like a beast

The two different depths of Rogue Monster Lite sries foldable squat rack

The above image shows the two different depths in which the Rogue Monster Lite series RML-3W Fold Back Wall Mount Rack is available. The shorter depth is obviously meant for extremely compact spaces. These side posts, the uprights, and the stringers are made of 11 gauge 3” X 3” steel tubing, which is solid enough to bear enough weight that you may lift. But, if you are a really tough guy, you may want to go with the Rogue Monster RM-3W Fold Back Wall Mount Rack, which has huge 1” hardware.

Talking about the RML-3W foldable squat rack, it has ⅝” bolts, which are pretty standard with almost all good-quality squat racks and half racks. The holes are laser cut, so compatibility with monster lite series accessories won’t be a problem.

The folding mechanism is simple but takes about a minute.

You have to lock and unlock the support beams with the help of 4 detent pins and then you need to remove the pullup bar at the top. The uprights have plastic caps at the bottom to protect your floor or weightlifting platform. When folded back, the whole setup sticks out just 5” from the wall, making it one of the slimmest foldable squat racks.

Talking about how you can fold it; you can fold both the columns in the middle, one in the middle and one outside, or both out. The middle position looks the best though but the other options are good to have just in case you are buying it for your garage and spacing 2” of space can make a lot of difference.

The accessories are heavy-duty

As mentioned above, the pullup bar is a quick-attach type. You don’t need to screw it in. Rather it can be attached/detached within seconds using the hitch pins. Don’t worry; the hitch pins do a pretty good job, so the bar won’t wobble.

As expected from Rogue Fitness, the j-hooks are heavy-duty too and have thick padding to protect your barbell and minimize noise and vibration. With decent use, they can last for more than 2 years.

Assembly is tricky but doable

Rogue’s website has a video in which it shows two people installing the  Rogue Monster Lite series RML-3W Fold Back Wall Mount Rack in just 15 minutes. But, that's not something you should expect.

Being a foldable rack, it is slightly tricky to assemble. And, you definitely need someone (or two) to help you. If you have some installation experience, it should be easy for you but it could take a few hours.

We highly recommend you buy the optional stringers because they can make the installation process much easier. The stringers have pre-cut holes, so there won’t be any guesswork and measurements. Plus, they help enhance the overall stability of the rack. If you don’t buy stringers, you will have to buy wood separately.

To fold it back, you will have to remove the top pull up bar

Well, that's quite understandable but you should know that this process is not that easy. The bar sits at the top of the rack so every time you want to add or remove it you may have to use a stool especially if you are a short-height person.

Now, you might be wondering if adding the pull up bar is necessary at all.

Well, it may not be necessary because the uprights have proper locks that keep them in their positions. But, we would still recommend using the pull up bar because that will help you create an extremely stable, robust setup.

If we have to suggest one improvement to Rogue Fitness, we would ask it to add foot stabilizers like the one that the Ethos folding Wall mount rack has. Look at the image below.

Foot Stabilizers of Ethos folding squat rack

These foot stabilizers help provide additional stability to the rack, so in case you are in a hurry, you may skip adding the top bar.

Rogue Monster Lite series foldable wall-mount squat racks is a high-end home gym equipment

We are pretty sure you had expected this.

All four racks are much more expensive than the other competitive products such as the Ethos folding wall-mounted rack, the Titan X-3 Series Folding Power Rack, the REP Fitness PR-4100 Folding Squat Rack, and the Fringesport Retractable Power Rack.

The cheapest foldable squat rack from Rogue’s Monster lite series is the Rogue RML-90 SLIM Rack, which has bracket mounts. If you want crossmember mounts, you will have to pay extra. Plus, you will also have to buy a pullup bar separately. And, yet it costs $380. Plus, you will have to pay for shipping and stringers, if you want them.

The door mount foldable squat rack costs around $570 and the other two are more than $600. Now, that’s pretty expensive.
If you are an athlete or an advanced trainer, you may not mind paying so much but if you are a fitness enthusiast like us, this could be too much. We would rather go with the above-mentioned alternatives and spend the rest of the money on good quality weightlifting shoes such as Nordic Lifting Weightlifting Shoes or Core Weightlifting Shoes, or maybe we will buy a Mini Theragun.
